Why making things with your hands is good for your head

Phones down, hands busy. A few honest notes on why an afternoon at the wheel feels better than an afternoon on the sofa.

Coloured pencils fanned out in a rainbow

There’s a particular quiet that settles over the studio about twenty minutes into a class. Conversation slows, shoulders drop and everybody’s attention narrows to the clay, the brush or the stem in front of them.

We see it every weekend, and it’s the reason Sunday Club exists. Making something with your hands asks for just enough concentration to crowd out everything else — the inbox, the group chat, the list.

Small wins, often

Unlike most of what we do all week, making gives you something you can hold at the end. A wonky bowl is still a bowl. A first bouquet is still beautiful.

Permission to be a beginner

Most adults rarely get to be bad at something new. Our classes are built for exactly that: low stakes, lots of help and nobody keeping score.
